Friends,
The US Open finals in New York was filled with stars and great tennis. President Trump was in attendance alongside stars like Sting, “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen, Steph Currie, Wayne Gretzky, Jessica Alba, Ben Stiller, Al Roker, Courtney Cox and Jon Bon Jovi, among others. Thep play was unreal. Even with the Rafa, Djokovic, Federer era, I can’t imagine much better play and two more outstanding rivals than we are seeing in Sinner and Alcarez. And on the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka defeated Amanda Anisimova in their second straight major (fortunately, this time it was much more challenging than “Love, Love” Wimbledon final). The NFL season is underway (what a great Sunday night Raven-Bills game – I wish I would have stayed up). More importantly, 28 days to hockey season.
Washington ramps back up to full speed this week after the shorter holiday week. After attending the US Open and heading out to dinner somewhere in DC maybe tonight, the President will focus mostly on the commemoration of the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, including attending Yankees game where the Day will be remembered. (Of course with Yankees and 9/11, the first thing I always think of is George W’s first pitch in Game 3 of the 2001 World Series – one of the most amazing moments in politics ever.
Also with offshore wind in the news, check out this piece in the Providence Journal discussing national security questions and note that tomorrow is the comment deadline for the Commerce Department’s Section 232 investigation on the national security of imports of wind turbines and their parts and components.
The House will put its own version of the NDAA on the floor this week after the Senate Passed its bill. As mentioned last week, the House Appropriations hopes to finalize three of the 12 appropriations bills and add them to a short-term continuing resolution lasting until ‘mid-November.’
On Wednesday we will see the first bite at the apple of permitting reform when House Resources takes up Chairman Westerman and Democrat Jared Golden’s SPEED Act, as well as a couple of other permit reform bills. Other interesting hearings include tomorrow’s House Energy Committee hearing on Energy Efficiency standards and building codes. Tomorrow afternoon, House Resources also holds a hearing on energy dominance.
There is a lot happening outside Washington this week as well. The Nuclear industry is in Atlanta, RE+ is on Las Vegas (with offshore wind’s foibles definitely on attendee’s minds) and Gastech is in Milan for those lucky enough to make that trip, including Interior Secretary Burgum tomorrow and Energy Secretary Wright on Wednesday.
In DC, the Chamber hosts is highly-regarded and heavily attended Aviation and Space Forum this week as well. R Street looks at permitting tomorrow in an event the day before the House Resources hearing on the topic and finally, TODAY at noon, SAFE and the Coalition for Reimagined Mobility hold a virtual discussion and report launch on AI and mobility, securing America's edge in safer, smarter transportation.
Finally, with the 9th annual National Clean Energy Week just a week away, more bipartisan governors from North Dakota, Wisconsin, Georgia, Maine and Michigan are the next group of five governors to issue proclamations recognizing September 15-19th as Clean Energy Week. These proclamations were made by Govs. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), Tony Evers (D-WI), Brian Kemp (R-GA), Janet Mills (D-ME) and Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), joining 10 others including Idaho, Mississippi, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia and DC.
See you next week at NCEW events!!! Call with questions.
Best,
Frank Maisano

"That’s a very active dialogue in the administration. Offshore wind has moved fast. It’s got a lot of problems, both environmental and economic — and they are being very actively worked and discussed.”
Energy Secretary Chris Wright (as reported by Bloomberg) when asked if anything could be done to allow work to resume at Orsted’s Revolution Wind Project after giving remarks at an event held by the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington.

FUN OPINIONS
Offshore Wind is National Security Issue, but Positive – In an op-ed in the Hartford Courant, former USS Cole Commander Kirk Lippold writes the Revolution Wind project, with 80% of construction complete, is well on its way toward supplying 350,000 Connecticut and Rhode Island homes with a substantial new source of power just as growing demand from AI, data centers, and our electrifying economy pushes Americans’ electricity bills higher. This project is both necessary and affordable. Lippold urges the Administration to pursue a technology neutral energy policy that maximizes available resources—coupled with a return to regulatory predictability and government transparency— which would do far more to bolster U.S. national security and ultimately meet the administration’s own economic goals.
FROG BLOG
Newsday Editorial: Chilling Wind Does Serve Energy Needs – In an editorial, Newsday writes President Trump’s actions chilling wind projects doesn't serve nation's energy needs. A more attainable strategy to reduce fossil fuels needs to be articulated, pursued and achieved. Until then, Americans cannot be held hostage by the possibility of blackouts and exorbitant energy costs that will likely come due to forgoing one energy source in lieu of another. Encouraging the offshore wind industry is a major step in the right direction. For Long Island, offshore wind farms represent a largely untapped source of much-needed supply.

Chamber Resilience Report Highlights Opportunities – The US Chamber released its new resilience study, Beyond the Payoff: How Investments in Resilience and Disaster Preparedness Protect Communities. The report reveals that every dollar not invested in disaster resilience today could result in up to $33 in lost future economic activity when a disaster strikes. Building on the 2024 report, The Preparedness Payoff, this analysis models the long-term economic impacts of various investment scenarios across five major disaster types. This report also highlights how local, state, and federal leaders can take action. Resilience is a shared responsibility. By adopting a calibrated, risk-informed approach, communities can strengthen their adaptive capacity and reduce long-term costs. Key Takeaways:
